On February 7th, 2010 the New Orleans Saints face the Indianapolis Colts at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL for one of the biggest games of 2010, Super Bowl XLIV. Unarguably, some amazing plays were made by athletes from both teams. However, one of the biggest play-makers behind the scenes was another highly acclaimed name – FiltaFry.
Everyone knows that when it comes to game time there are a few staples that just go hand-in-hand with football. Probably one of the most popular of these game time delicacies is chicken wings. During the Super Bowl alone, an estimate 1 billion chicken wings were consumed by the major sporting event’s over 153 million viewers.
Just like chicken wings go with football, Filta goes with fried food. Without a doubt, Super Bowl Sunday is the single largest day for fried food in the nation. FiltaFry was there for it all, help restaurants and bars around the country reduce the amount of cooking oil needed to satisfy hungry game watchers.
However, America’s love of fried food and the association of chicken wings with football is not limited to just the Super Bowl. During the playoffs alone, Americans consumed enough chicken wings that if you were to collect all of the cooking oil needed to fry them up you could fill several Olympic sized swimming pools. That is a substantial impact on the environment.
FiltaFry helps to reduce waste oil production so that commercial kitchens only use half as much cooking oil in their deep fryers. When you think about all of the fried foods that get consumed, especially during football season, it isn’t hard to realize how much that really adds up. Fortunately, FiltaFry provides a means of significantly reducing the environmental footprint of consumption and help food-service businesses save a lot of money in the kitchen operations.
FiltaFry is already being used in number of major sports venues to help feed the millions of hungry game goers without creating unnecessary waste. Filta is proud to provide its service for the Denver Broncos at Invesco Stadium at Mile High throughout the football season. In fact, the Filta franchise that serves hungry Bronco fans is actually owned by Bronco’s player Kenny Peterson.
Invesco Mile High is not the only major sports arena to use FiltaFry, either. FiltaFry is also currently utilized by the Cleveland Browns and the Washington Redskins, as well. FiltaFry also provides a taste touchdown in the chicken wings and other fried foods served the stadiums of the University of Arkansas, the University of Alabama and the University of Virginia.
As more and more sports venues begin to realize just how much benefit Filta has to offer in improved food quality, reduced waste and decreased expense it is certain that more and more of these arenas will follow suit. Whether feeding thousands or feeding dozens at a local bar and grill, Filta helps the environment and helps business owners. In fact, FiltaFry has gained such a great reputation that it has been asked to provide service for two of the main venues at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The sports world is quickly realizing Filta as one of the key players for its consistent

Since 1996 the Filta Group has been gaining more and more notice as a provider of top-quality service to commercial kitchens. Most recently, the Filta Group was honored with the 2009 U.S. Commerce Associations “Best of Local Business” Award in the category of Green Business. This is because Filta’s products and services are just great when it comes to saving their customers time and money, the Filta services are also great for the environment too. Filta firmly believes that green business is good business and that shows in every Filta product and service offered by every Filta franchise across the world.
Therefore, it was only natural that when Vancouver was selected as the site for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Filta was called on to make sure that the food needs of millions of visiting participants and spectators could be met with the least amount of negative environmental impact and waste. During the coming Winter Olympics, Filta representatives will be working diligently to provide the acclaimed FiltaFry cooking oil micro-filtration service to all of the deep fryers in use around BC Place where the opening ceremonies are to be held and GM Place, one of the main sites of the Olympic competitions.
For those who are not yet aware, FiltaFry operates by using a specialized micro-filtration system to purify even the most microscopic particles from cooking oil. As a result of the process the oil remains usable for twice as long without sacrificing quality and taste. Oil that lasts twice as long mean half as much oil used. In this instance, that amount is truly staggering.
Initially planning estimated that around 600,000 gallons of cooking oil would be used over the course of the event. That is enough cooking oil to completely fill an Olympic sized swimming pool. FiltaFry hopes to drastically reduce that amount, substantially lessening the waste created by the monumental event. Furthermore, because FiltaFry maintained fryers run more efficiently, the fryers running at BC Place and GM Place will be able to keep up with demands while using a lot less electricity.
Local Vancouver Filta franchise owner, Steven Hughes, has already expressed his excitement at getting to provide Filta services for this historic event. Steven already has plenty of practice providing FiltaFry services for large sports venues. He currently filters the cooking oil used in the fryers at GM Place during the National Hockey League season when it also serves as the home arena of the Vancouver Canucks.
Just like the thousands of Olympic competitors hoping to win fame and glory at the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Olympic games will be an exciting chance for Filta to show the world just what FiltaFry can do on such a massive scale. Unlike any other Olympic hopeful, Filta does not represent just one country though. Filta has found a home in 27 of the countries that will be competing for gold in the 2010 Winter Games. Filta’s involvement in the 2010 Winter Olympics is a prime example of just how far Filta has come since its start as a single oil filtration business in the UK just over a decade ago.

As more and more people latch on to the idea of environmentally friendly practice, many businesses find that they are having trouble keeping up. Running business as usual is no longer acceptable and many businesses that thought they could succeed still going the way they were- old, tired practices that were hard on the earth and big on waste- are finding that their profits dip, or they end up having to close their doors all together. But not one franchise. Filtafry began with an eco conscious vision- so for the franchise to continue to improve upon that in recent years comes as very little surprise.

As a matter of fact, many of the franchise owners that are currently quite successful with Filtafry also adhere to higher standards of green friendly business practices. For Filtafry, this isn’t just a new marketing idea- this is the way things have been done since the very start. Filtafry’s commitment to the environment is often seen in sponsorships and education on a local level, but as a business itself, Filtafry offers a much better service that benefits both business owner, and the environment.

Environmentalism is at the very core of everything that Filtafry does, to be sure. But what does this mean for a potential franchise owner? If you will have a look at current market trends, it is obvious that the Green trend isn’t something that is simply going away. As a matter of fact, this trend is still climbing and becoming less of a trend and a more daily part of life for most people. This means that many businesses are going to begin to take a hard look at the way that they do things and what areas they can trim the fat and cut the costs while eliminating a great deal of the waste their establishment puts out. This is where that great sales training comes in during the first days of your FiltaFry franchise ownership. One demonstration is often all it takes to convince restaurant and food service owners that a Filtafry service is something they could use to take the green aspects of their business a step further and promote a better bottom line.

If you have a passion for the environment, are a hard worker who would love to own their own business, Filtafry is definitely right up your alley. Take for instance Richard Hamilton, a former Alltel Corp work in Arkansas. He knew that he wanted to take control of his financial future, as well as a genuine concern for the economy and the environment. What did Richard do with all of that passion and drive? He started Eco Services of Arkansas Inc. But that is not where he stopped. Now, the vans that Richard drives in his business- he also fuels, with an aspect of his business. You know by now that one of the many benefits to food service places is waste oil disposal? Richard turns his collected waste oil into valuable biodoesel. Now, that’s commitment!

While the allure and benefits of entering into a franchising arrangement are great, there are some considerations to make when deciding if operating a franchise is the right decision for the individual business owner. Placing oneself under the umbrella of a larger financial entity can help allay risk and offer a greater chance of success, but it also limits the autonomy of the business owner and is not without its own costs.

Financial considerations are the most obvious. The initial costs for starting a franchise can often exceed the costs of establishing an independent business. Beside the cost of building a business from the ground up, there are additional franchising fees that must be paid to the franchisor up front. Often a franchisor will expect the franchisee to start their business at a specific standard of operations, utilizing equipment or procedures that are more costly than if an independent business owner were to “start small” and work his/her way up.

Beyond the initial start-up costs and franchise fees a franchisee agrees to pay royalty payments for the use of the franchisor’s trademarks. This means that for the duration of the contract, for the life of business, a percentage of the franchise’s monthly gross goes to the franchisor. This reduces the overall profits of the franchisee and can be considered an additional operational expense that is not incurred by the independent business owner.

Some franchising contracts also stipulate that the franchisee pay a marketing fee to offset the cost incurred by the franchisor for marketing campaigns and market research. The costs to the franchisee for such marketing is usually substantially less than the cost of comparable advertising, if done by an independent business. However, the franchise operator has no say in how the marketing is conducted or how advertising funds are spent.

The narrow degree of creativity afforded the franchise owner is not
limited to the realm of advertising, either. All aspects of the franchised unit must conform to the overall scheme of the franchising business. Most franchisors have standards of appearance and presentation covering all aspects of the business from general site design, down to employee uniforms. There is little or no leeway for alterations or additions to the overall business or how it is conducted. In order to use the brand name an owner is contractually obligated to follow the brand’s established mode of operation.

Many franchise contracts also specify explicit sources for business supplies. These suppliers have been selected to insure a consistency in the ability to meet the demands and the quality standards of the franchise. While this alleviates the need of the owner to establish such sources independently, it also places a limit on flexibility. Such suppliers may not always be the cheapest or most convenient source of materials.

Further considerations to take into account when deciding if franchising is a viable business option center around the overall commitment that a franchise contract entails. Once agreed upon, an owner may find him/herself locked into a lengthy contractual obligation with a company that is not well suited to his/her individual business goals. Furthermore, an owner who is incautious in selecting a stable franchisor may find him/herself tethered to a sinking ship with little means of extraction.

It is important for a potential owner to approach the issue of franchising with clearly defined goals and expectations. While the benefits of operating a franchise are great, there are constraints that are not placed upon the independent business owner. It is important that any potential owner establish whether or not the benefits of franchising outweigh the limitation on an individual basis and keeps in mind that there are no guarantees of success either way.

“In business for yourself, not by yourself.” This is an old maxim, ascribed to William James and touted by franchising organizations and business pundits everywhere. While it sounds great, and definitely sums up one of the core benefits of franchising, not all franchisors exemplify this ideal when it comes down to actual support of their franchisees. When searching out the ideal franchising partnership, it is vital to evaluate this aspect of the franchising arrangement. Having a sufficient level of support to meet your needs as a business owner can make or break your fledgling business. The Filta Group prides itself in its commitment to standing behind its franchisees by providing the resources and support necessary to give their franchisees an edge in today’s marketplace.

Filta Training

Filta understands that in order for a franchise to be a success, it has to start out on strong footing. To ensure that franchisees are equipped from the onset to make the most out of their franchises, Filta offers an unparalleled training program for new franchise owners. This intensive initial training is multi-faceted and provides Filta franchisees with not only classroom education, but also with hands on real-world experience.
Filta franchisees start their education in multi-faceted courses conducted by Filta headquarters in Orlando, FL. These comprehensive courses cover all aspects of Filta franchise operation and administration. Everything from the technical aspects of operating Filta equipment to practical knowledge about business administration is covered. After the period of instruction, Filta franchisees continue their education by going on the job with experienced and successful Filta owners. These mentors provide practical in-field experience on the realities of franchise ownership and operation. Finally, new franchisees work along a Business Development Manager within their own territories, learning the tools necessary to promote and market their new business. These BDMs ensure that new franchisees have a solid base of regular customers before the franchisee ever embark on their own

Continuing Support

The Filta Group doesn’t draw the line at initial training. Filta continues to stand behind its franchisees throughout the life of the business. Anytime an issue arises within a franchise, Filta stands ready to help see the franchisee through to the best of its ability. If there is a solution to a franchisee’s problem, Filta will work to help find it. Filta is available anytime via phone, or online through the FiltaNet.
The FiltaNet also offers another unique support resource to Filta franchisees. This valuable internet tool puts franchisees in instant contact with a strong network of experienced peer owners. There is also vast online library of literature pertaining to all aspects of Filta ownership. If a new franchisee encounters a problem, then it is likely that others have had the same issue arise in the past and have worked out a practical solution.

Marketing Support

Filta also works to assist their franchisees in handling new customer inquiries. The toll-free number printed on the side of all Filta vans and on all printed marketing material directs calls to the headquarters in Orlando. There knowledgable professionals can answer questions and provide information to potential new customers before passing them along to the appropriate franchisee. This service allows franchisees to focus on running their business, instead of worrying about juggling phone calls.
